While the Commonwealth exists to serve everyone in every member state, the Commonwealth has placed specific emphasis on youth development. I am happy to see so many young faces today. For this reason, my remarks will focus heavily on the youth and their relationship with the Commonwealth. |

Wednesday June 3rd, 2009: St George’s, Grenada: Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, is calling on the NDC administration to refrain from using the Royal Grenada Police Force to achieve its political objective. Commenting on the plan to detain popular radio host, Allan Campbell and subsequently the directive given for him to present himself at the Grenville Police Station for questioning, he said it is symbolic of the dark period 1979-1983 which no Grenadian should want to go back to. |

At a time when various Caribbean Ministers of Government have recently met and agreed to levy yet another tax on intra Caribbean air travel, its time perhaps for them to contemplate exactly the effective its having on land based tourism. A seven day cruise departing from Barbados was recently advertised with one of the largest companies, taking in St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Kitts, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Dominica and back to Barbados. We a lead-in price from US$449 per person plus mandatory gratuities, Government fees and taxes, it represented what many might consider outstanding value-for-money. Especially as when you consider most meals, and other features like entertainment are included. Of the overall total cost, an amount of US$55.42 per person is shown as Government fees and taxes. |
