A pleasant afternoon to you and a special thank you for being part of today’s Commonwealth Celebrations. Welcome.

While the Commonwealth exists to serve everyone in every member state, the Commonwealth has placed specific emphasis on youth development. I am happy to see so many young faces today. For this reason, my remarks will focus heavily on the youth and their relationship with the Commonwealth.

TORONTO, Canada (February 14, 2010) - The Caribbean-Canadian community is being mobilised by a Pacific islander in Toronto to support humanitarian efforts for Haiti in an initiative lauded by the Caribbean Media Exchange (CMEx).
 
In partnership with CMEx, Toronto-based Maria Noa Habchi, of the Pacific Island of Samoa, is staging a "Haitian Carnival" cultural event on Sunday, February 28 at the Lula Lounge at 7 p.m. (1585 Dundas St. West) to raise revenues for the earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

YOUTH CALL FOR CLIMATE FRIENDLY CARIBBEAN

ImageEducation and Media Seen As Key in CMEx Declaration
 
CASTRIES, St. Lucia (February 13, 2010) -
Youth delegates to the Caribbean Media Exchange on Sustainable Tourism (CMEx) called for effective regional action on global warming and for more education to assist youth in making the region's destinations "climate friendly".
 
In a declaration adopted at the CMEx session in St. Lucia last December, youth participants voiced serious concern about "the separation and segregation of the Caribbean region" and called on governments "to aggressively encourage stakeholders to resume efforts to unite the Caribbean and market the region as a one."

Authors start race to win 24th Commonwealth Writers’ Prize

Winners to be announced in Delhi, India on 12 April 2010

The race to win the coveted titles of Best Book and Best First Book in the 2010 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize has begun. It was launched at the Jaipur Literary Festival where competitors learnt that the winners of the 24th year of the prize will be announced in Delhi, India on 12 April.
