Grenada and Japan hold bilateral meeting
ImageTOKYO, Japan, September 1, 2010 - Foreign Affairs Minister Peter David on Wednesday met with his Japanese counterpart H.E Mr. Katsuya Okada as they discussed a wide range of issues including Climate Change, UN Security Council Reform among others.

The Grenadian Minister, who is in the Japanese capital to attend the Second CARICOM-Japan Ministerial Meeting, took the opportunity to thank the Government of Japan for the assistance they have made available so far, especially in the Fisheries Sector, Human Resource Development through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) programmes and in the area of Climate Change.

Mr. Okada said that Japan was pleased with Grenada’s leadership of Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) particularly at the COP15 and looks forward to their continued leadership at COP16 scheduled for Cancun, Mexico in December.

Zublin Grenada Limited Statement on Governments Response to SGRP

Zublin Grenada Limited is disappointed at the formal response by Government to the St. George’s Renaissance Project.  The Government of Grenada sent Zublin a letter stating that “the Government cannot approve the implementation of the Public Private Partnership in the form presented”.
 
Zublin is disappointed that this position was taken without any consultations during the last 10 months, and before more in depth study of the project was done as was recommended by the Cabinet Appointed Committee.  This Committee supported the proposition of Zublin that the project be studied further because of its value and importance to Grenada. The Committee also recommended that Government sign a letter of intent with Zublin in order to structure public private cooperation.

Edutainment is entertainment CARICOM Youth learn to use traditional art forms in crafting Anti-drug

Image(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  More than sixty youth participants at a workshop on Edutainment in Antigua and Barbuda on Tuesday were taught how to utilise dance, ring games, and folk songs as powerful tools that could be used to pass on anti-drug messages.

The workshop, which started on Monday, in St Johns Antigua and Barbuda, brought together young people from 13 Member States who are being trained in using edutainment to educate their peers on the social, physical, and judicial consequences of substance abuse. It is an initiative of the CARICOM Secretariat supported by the European Union under the 9Th EDF Programme, and forms part of a broader strategy to build the capacity of Member States in dealing with the worsening problem of drug abuse and illicit trafficking within the Community.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     CARICOM Secretary-General, His Excellency Edwin Carrington has called on CARICOM security ministers at their tenth meeting in Antigua and Barbuda to focus on outcomes that would eventually place emphasis on making the CARICOM Single Market a zone of peace that would “continue to attract visitors to our shores and one that demonstrates to the world what can be achieved by small countries working together, to be competitive in the global arena.”

Nigel Holness Appointed Managing Director for FirstCaribbean International Bank - Jamaica (Ltd.)

Bridgetown, Barbados, June 24, 2010 - Mr. Nigel Holness has been appointed Managing Director and Senior Coverage Officer for FirstCaribbean International Bank’s Operating Company in Jamaica. His appointment takes effect from September 1, 2010, subject to regulatory approval.

The Bank’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Michael Mansoor, made the announcement today from the company’s Regional Head Office in Barbados.
