Grenada and Japan hold bilateral meeting
ImageTOKYO, Japan, September 1, 2010 - Foreign Affairs Minister Peter David on Wednesday met with his Japanese counterpart H.E Mr. Katsuya Okada as they discussed a wide range of issues including Climate Change, UN Security Council Reform among others.

The Grenadian Minister, who is in the Japanese capital to attend the Second CARICOM-Japan Ministerial Meeting, took the opportunity to thank the Government of Japan for the assistance they have made available so far, especially in the Fisheries Sector, Human Resource Development through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) programmes and in the area of Climate Change.

Mr. Okada said that Japan was pleased with Grenada’s leadership of Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) particularly at the COP15 and looks forward to their continued leadership at COP16 scheduled for Cancun, Mexico in December.

GBT ANNOUNCES ITS PHOTO COMPETITION

St. George’s, August 16th, 2010: Grenadians and visitors who have images that mirror the essence of Grenada have until September 20, 2010 to submit them to the Grenada Board of Tourism as part of a contest that has been organized to obtain images of Grenada’s sites and attractions, events, special occasions, Grenadian life, yachting and other unique scenery.

GBT LAUNCHES ITS PARISH BRANDING POJECT

St. George’s, August 16th, 2010: Representatives from Grenada’s parishes and nominees from Grencase, People in Action, and other groups and organizations are now informed about the Grenada Board of Tourism’s project to brand parishes on the basis of the distinctive goods and services that can be procured from them. In a briefing session at the Grenada Board of Tourism on Thursday August 12, 2010, participants were introduced to the concepts and objectives regarding how each parish is expected to develop its distinctive features, assets and possibilities via a purposeful system of collaboration involving local communities and the GBT.

SJC Class of ‘95 Gives Back and Issues a Call to Action

ImageSince the launch of SJC Class of ‘95 Fundraiser Reunion last July, geared towards the rehabilitation and development of their Alma Mater, the group has thus far raised over $2,000.00.
 
In October 2009 the Class of ’95 donated $500 to aid preparations for the SJC Garden Party. This contribution was sourced from fundraisers that were held last July and August.
 
This year, the group continued its fundraising efforts by hosting a Bake Sale on May 29th at the Esplanade Mall with delectable confectionaries ranging from cakes to home-made buns. This event raked in over $1,000, an improvement from the previous year.
 
In June, the group’s treasurer, Marcian Lewis handed over $200 to the Principal of the SJC, Sr. Maureen Alexander, at the school’s parlour.  Sr. Maureen expressed her gratitude for the contribution, which was used for the purchase of 4 trophies for the SJC 2010 Graduation.

Republic Bank Supports Carriacou Regatta Festival

ImageRepublic Bank maintains its longstanding association with the Carriacou Regatta Festival.  This year the bank has committed EC$15,000.00 to the festival, which is expected to transform the Sister Isle with the attraction of boat lovers and visitors from neighbouring islands and the wider diaspora.

The Bank has been sponsoring the festival for the past twenty-eight (28) years and this continued sponsorship reflects the Bank’s support for the development of culture in Carriacou. Regatta is one of Carriacou’s major tourist attractions and much hype is expected this year.  At the official opening ceremony, President of the Regatta Committee, Duane Williams said:  “Carriacou boasts the largest workboat regatta in the region and this year we expect increased participation from sailors both locally and regionally.”
