CARICOM WORKING WITH HAITI FOR THE NATION'S 'RENAISSANCE'

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Haitian Government has identified the town of Léogane and its environs as the preferred location for the health intervention of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

This was the information relayed by Haitian government officials following the CARICOM Mission to Haiti on Saturday 6 February. The Mission was led by the Chairman of CARICOM, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica, and included CARICOM Secretary-General, His Excellency Edwin Carrington; CARICOM Special Representative to Haiti, Most Honourable Percival Patterson; CARICOM Assistant Secretary-General, Foreign and Community Relations,

Creative Canadians unite to help Haiti
 
TORONTO, Canada (February 14, 2010) - The Caribbean-Canadian community is being mobilised by a Pacific islander in Toronto to support humanitarian efforts for Haiti in an initiative lauded by the Caribbean Media Exchange (CMEx).
 
In partnership with CMEx, Toronto-based Maria Noa Habchi, of the Pacific Island of Samoa, is staging a "Haitian Carnival" cultural event on Sunday, February 28 at the Lula Lounge at 7 p.m. (1585 Dundas St. West) to raise revenues for the earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

PRIME MINISTER MEETS GOVERNOR OF THE ECCB

ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FEBRUARY 12th, 2010_ Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas on Thursday welcomed the Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Sir K. Dwight Venner to his office at the Botanical Gardens in St. George’s.
 
The Prime Minister, accompanied by Minister for Finance, Hon. Nazim Burke discussed with Sir Dwight, the way forward for the OECS countries, following the initialing of the new treaty of Basseterre in St. Kitts on December 29th last year, along with other issues that are critical to the establishment of a single market and economy within the OECS.
 
The new treaty sets the stage for the OECS to establish a single economic space that will allow for the easy movement for labour and capital.

TOWN HALL MEETING PLANNED FOR RIVER SALLEE

ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FEBRUARY 12th, 2010_ Government’s plans for the development of Grenada in general, and the north of the island in particular, will be center stage, when Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas and other Cabinet members meet with residents of River Sallee in a town hall meeting on Tuesday, 16th February, 2010.
 
The meeting is planned for the River Sallee Government School in St. Patrick’s and will begin at 7.00pm. This is the first town hall meeting for 2010 and marks the continuation of a series of public forums during which Ministers of Government report to the electorate on their stewardship and on national developments.

DERBYSHIRE JUNIOR COUNTY CRICKET TEAMS VISITS GRENADA

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 12TH FEBRUARY 2010 _ The Derbyshire Junior County Cricket Team is in Grenada.  The team arrived at the Maurice Bishop International Airport on Friday February 12th on Virgin Atlantic.  It is the inaugural visit of the team, which is coached by John Morris who played three test matches and eight one-day internationals for England.

Speaking to officials from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment & Sports, Morris said, “We are looking forward to the challenge that the island’s teams will throw at us.  We’ve got a balanced team; they do a little bit of everything.”
