DIGICEL HAITI HELPS RADIO STATIONS GET BACK ON AIR AFTER EARTHQUAKE |

Telecommunications operator also launches host of value promotions to help customers stay in contact with friends and family Monday, February 8th, 2010 – Kingston, Jamaica: As part of Digicel’s relief efforts in Haiti, the country’s largest mobile operator has donated an assortment of generators, phones and credit to 15 radio stations in Port-au-Prince to help them get back in contact with their listeners after the earthquake on January 12th. With no electricity, damaged equipment and buildings that were destroyed during the earthquake, radio stations were faced with a host of logistical challenges that made it difficult for them to broadcast important information to the people of Haiti. Now, with the donation of this vital equipment, these radio stations have been able to resume broadcasting.

The Executive of the Antigua Labour Party (ALP), meeting on Friday night February 5 2010 at 46 North Street, has adopted a resolution which demands that the Baldwin Spencer regime act immediately to stem the rising tide of crime and violence that plagues our society, undermines our security, and places our economy in jeopardy. The resolution of the Executive of the ALP pointed to the brazen robberies with firearms by masked gunmen, the murder of the tourists in English Harbour/Falmouth in 2009 and as recently as January 19, 2010, the robbery of the couple strolling along Bay Street on Tuesday morning February 2, 2010, and the countless unpunished rapes committed by criminals against our womenfolk. |

PRIME MINISTER DISCUSSES VISA REMOVAL WITH NEW CANADIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER |

ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FEBRUARY 5th, 2010_Prime Minister, Hon Tillman Thomas has once again raised the possibility of the removal of the VISA restriction on Grenadians travelling to Canada, with that country’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Grenada and the OECS, Her Excellency Ruth Archibald. The Prime Minister raised the issue this morning as the New High Commissioner presented her Letters of Introduction to him at his Botanical Gardens office. “This is one of the issues we will like to encourage some movement on, given the close relationship between Canada and Grenada,” the Prime Minister told the Canadian diplomat. He also confirmed that some measures were already taken to address the situation as directed by the Canadian government, following discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. |
