PRIME MINISTER MEETS GOVERNOR OF THE ECCB

ImageST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FEBRUARY 12th, 2010_ Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas on Thursday welcomed the Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Sir K. Dwight Venner to his office at the Botanical Gardens in St. George’s.
 
The Prime Minister, accompanied by Minister for Finance, Hon. Nazim Burke discussed with Sir Dwight, the way forward for the OECS countries, following the initialing of the new treaty of Basseterre in St. Kitts on December 29th last year, along with other issues that are critical to the establishment of a single market and economy within the OECS.
 
The new treaty sets the stage for the OECS to establish a single economic space that will allow for the easy movement for labour and capital.

TOWN HALL MEETING PLANNED FOR RIVER SALLEE

ImageST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FEBRUARY 12th, 2010_ Government’s plans for the development of Grenada in general, and the north of the island in particular, will be center stage, when Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas and other Cabinet members meet with residents of River Sallee in a town hall meeting on Tuesday, 16th February, 2010.
 
The meeting is planned for the River Sallee Government School in St. Patrick’s and will begin at 7.00pm. This is the first town hall meeting for 2010 and marks the continuation of a series of public forums during which Ministers of Government report to the electorate on their stewardship and on national developments.

DERBYSHIRE JUNIOR COUNTY CRICKET TEAMS VISITS GRENADA

GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 12TH FEBRUARY 2010 _ The Derbyshire Junior County Cricket Team is in Grenada.  The team arrived at the Maurice Bishop International Airport on Friday February 12th on Virgin Atlantic.  It is the inaugural visit of the team, which is coached by John Morris who played three test matches and eight one-day internationals for England.

Speaking to officials from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment & Sports, Morris said, “We are looking forward to the challenge that the island’s teams will throw at us.  We’ve got a balanced team; they do a little bit of everything.”

GRENADA CHAIRS ACP PRIVATE SECTOR COMMITTEE

ImageBRUSSELS, Belgium, February 9, 2010 - Grenada, through Ambassador Stephen Fletcher in Brussels, Belgium, has assumed the Chairmanship of the ACP Investment and Private Sector Committee.

The Committee is responsible for supervising, monitoring, and developing broad policy frameworks of the private sector institutions under the ACP-EU Cotonou Framework agreements.

These agreements include the Centre for the Development of Enterprise; the Water and Energy Facilities; Microfinance Facility and all other instruments that provide funding from the EU to ACP Private sector states.

For the first time, we are having this ceremony during the afternoon as we seek to accommodate our religious customs, new features and engage more Grenadians. So I want to warmly welcome all of you to this celebratory event.

As we celebrate our nation’s historic birth, our theme of love and togetherness is quite appropriate and timely. These desirable values of love and togetherness have traditionally characterized our Grenadian society over the years.

PRIME MINISTER DISCUSSES VISA REMOVAL WITH NEW CANADIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER

ImageST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FEBRUARY 5th, 2010_Prime Minister, Hon Tillman Thomas has once again raised the possibility of the removal of the VISA restriction on Grenadians travelling to Canada, with that country’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Grenada and the OECS, Her Excellency Ruth Archibald.

The Prime Minister raised the issue this morning as the New High Commissioner presented her Letters of Introduction to him at his Botanical Gardens office.

“This is one of the issues we will like to encourage some movement on, given the close relationship between Canada and Grenada,” the Prime Minister told the Canadian diplomat. He also confirmed that some measures were already taken to address the situation as directed by the Canadian government, following discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

“NLA LAUNCHES DAILY PICK 3 MID-DAY DRAW”

ST. GEORGE’S - FRIDAY, 5TH JANUARY, 2010 – The National Lotteries Authority (NLA) will be adding a daily mid-day draw to its popular Daily Pick 3 game, from February 9th, 2010.

The Daily Pick 3 is one of the leading products of the NLA; and is currently offered to consumers every evening from Monday through to Friday. However, with the addition of the mid-day draw from February 9th, consumers will have double opportunities to win money every day of every week; i.e.: at mid-day and on evenings.
