Record Entry for 2010 Grenada Sailing Festival

ImageA record 44 yachts have taken part in the 2010 Grenada Sailing Festival Port Louis Racing Series, presented by Port Louis Trading and Camper & Nicholsons Marinas. This year, the annual National event, run in association with the Grenada Board of Tourism, took place from Friday 29 January to Tuesday 2 February and organisers reported that they were delighted to welcome one of the strongest and most competitive fleets since the event began in 1994.

Savvy Grenada Donates Land to Belmont/Springs Community

ImageSavvy Grenada, the parent company of Port Louis, Mount Cinnamon and Tufton Hall, has donated a parcel of land to the Belmont/ Springs Community for the construction of a new Community Centre. The donation was made on Wednesday January 27th at the land site.

The handing over Ceremony was attended by Minister of Tourism and Member of Parliament for the Area Hon. Glynis Roberts who thanked Savvy Grenada Chairman Peter de Savary for his contribution. Minister Roberts told the Savvy team which included Mr. de Savary and the residents of the area who attended that it was important that Government, communities and developers worked together for the betterment of the society.

New bus shed for Dunfermline

ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FEBRAURY 1, 2010 – The people of Dunfermline now have a newly spruced up bus shed. The Dunfermline Bus Shed was repainted last Saturday, January 30, as part of the 2010 Independence celebration activities.
 
The work was spearheaded by the Community Builders’ Brigade of the Community Development Division of the Ministry of Housing.
 
In a show of patriotism, Staff of the ministry – who comprises the Brigade – was joined in repainting the bus shed in the red, green and gold national colours by members of the community.

JOINT BOUNDARY COMMISSION TO ENGAGE IN ANOTHER ROUND OF TALKS

ImageWednesday January 20, 2010, St. George’s: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Peter David, has reported that “considerable progress’’ was made at the most recent round of maritime talks between Grenada and oil-rich Trinidad and Tobago.

Representatives of the two countries met in St. George’s last week as part of the Joint Boundary Commission.

Minister David said Tuesday another round of talks will be required before negotiations by the commission can be concluded.  He is optimistic that a final deal could be reached, saying negotiators are closer to finding that exact point where Trinidad ends and Grenada begins.

“We have not yet concluded negotiations but I must say that there is an immense amount of optimism based on work done last Thursday and Friday,’’ Minister David told reporters.

A month after leading the National Democratic Congress to a general election victory in 2008, Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas visited Trinidad and Tobago where he met with Prime Minister Patrick Manning.

Prime Minister Thomas welcomes support for Haiti Mediathon

ImageST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, JANUARY 19th, 2010 - Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has described the response of his countrymen to Monday night’s Grenada-Haiti Mediathon as “overwhelming”. The programme, a collaborative effort of several media organisations, received pledges of over ECD 562,000 for the Government of Grenada Haiti Relief Fund.
 
“I am very pleased with the response of the Grenadian people to this effort. These funds will go to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) to help with the immediate needs of our brothers and sisters in Haiti,” the Prime Minister said.
 
Prime Minister Thomas was high in praise for students, especially those in day care centers and pre-primary schools, who contributed more than ECD 14,000 to the Haiti relief effort.
 
He suggested that persons who did not have the opportunity to contribute during the programme can still do so by making deposits to the Government of Grenada Haiti Relief Fund, account number 121003657 at the Grenada Cooperative Bank.

tWRF delegation meets with Prime Minister

ImageA Willie Redhead Foundation delegation of four – namely Ray Smith, Cecil Edwards, Dalton Mc Guire and Norris Mitchell met with Prime Minister Tillman Thomas on Friday January 15, 2010 to obtain clarity on a number of points relating to the Zublin’s Renaissance Project for the City of St. George.

The Foundation’s raison d’être, whose original watchword   was “ For the preservation and urban renewal of St. George’s”, was subsequently changed to” For the preservation and renewal of the National Heritage of Grenada” , and having pursued this mandate in one form or another over the past 15 years, felt that it is in a strategic position to make a significant contribution to the ongoing debate as to the pros and cons of the proposed project.

In this regard, the Foundation’s prime concern at this stage is the state of the urbanization of our Capital City, and is therefore in the process of gathering all the relevant facts relating to the City as a whole and the project in particular, before making an in depth analytical presentation to the public.

True Blue Bay Resort & Villas Makes Donation to the Bel Air Children’s Home

ImageGuest at the True Blue Bay Resort will now enjoy flat screen TV’s in their rooms and new updated playground equipment will be installed, by the end of February, at the garden area by the Bay View Pool.

These upgrades enabled the resort to start the New Year in a benevolent mood by donating surplus playground equipment, and a much needed Television set, to the Bel Air Children’s Home.

Along with these gifts, the sum of EC $1600 was, on Thursday, 7 January, presented to the staff of the Home, by the owner of the resort, Russ Fielden.  This donation was the total sum collected by the sale of the replaced televisions, to the staff of the resort, at a greatly reduced price.
