Performance of Jamaica’s female athletes hailed

Jamaican athletes Ms Shelly Ann Fraser and Ms Melanie Walker were commended by Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) H.E. Edwin Carrington for their performances at the Beijing Olympics.

In a message of congratulations to the athletes, the Secretary-General said it was with “great pride and pleasure that I extend to Ms Fraser and Ms Walker in particular and their compatriots for the fine example they have offered to Regional youth of world class excellence”.

Secretary-General congratulates Bolt on `phenomenal’ performances

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), H.E. Edwin Carrington has extended congratulations to Mr. Usain Bolt on his victories in the 100 and 200 metres at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Mr. Bolt won the 200 metres on Wednesday 20 August 2008, and broke the record set by American Michael Johnson. The Jamaican athlete won the 100 metres last week with a world record.

Canada Approves CAD $7,200,000.00 for Canadian – Eastern Caribbean Debt Management Advisory Service

The Government of Canada acting through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has approved a contribution of seven million two hundred thousand Canadian dollars (CAD $7, 200,000.00) for the establishment of a “Canada - Eastern Caribbean Debt Management Advisory Service” which is designed to support measures to improve debt management in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU).

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) His Excellency Edwin Carrington welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD) and the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) at the conclusion of a two-day Meeting he hosted with Heads of Community Institutions at the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana.

Integration is not for the ‘Faint of Heart’ says Secretary-General Carrington

In spite of the expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of progress to achieve deeper integration, the Community must guard against divergence of opinion leading to diversion from achieving common goals, said H.E. Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
