GRENADA'S CHRIS DE ALLIE IN ACTION Grenada has won the OECS Boxing Championships for a record 11 times by recapturing the title at the 16th annual event in St.George's at the weekend. Grenada, which lost the tournament to Dominica in St. Lucia last year, rebounded to win five of the nine final bouts at the LaBorie Sporting Complex. Homeboy Kandel Dowden was voted Most Outstanding Boxer of the two day event after defeating Dominica's Reny Auguiste in the Bantamweight division to successfully defend his OECS title. The referee stopped the contest in the second round as Auguiste struggled to recover from a flurry of punches unleashed by Dowden. Grenada's Shamma Johnson registered an easy victory on points over Dominica's Michael Faddoul in the featherweight category. The Former Caribbean champion Jewel Lewis outpointed St.Lucia's Thomas Melville to win the light welterweight title after pulling off a revenge semi-final victory over Vincentian opponent Jahzeil Lewis who beat him last year. Spurred on by a noisy crowd, Jaime Bullen and Christopher De Allie posted exciting wins for Grenada in two heavy weight categories. De Allie survived a standing 8 count to score what appeared to be a come from behind victory over Lorenzo Duncan of St.Vincent and the Grenadines in the heavy weight bout.
ACTION IN THE OECS CHAMPIONSHIP Bullen, a resident of the sister isle of carriacou, scored a dramatic first round knock-out of Errol Alexander of St.Vincent and the Grenadines in the Super heavyweight . Light weight Giovanni Ermay, middle weight Julian Agiou and light heavyweight Darius DeToute were the title winners for St. Lucia. Ermay defeated Grenada's Jude Daniel on points, while Agiou also won in similar fashion but not before unleashing a pounding on Dominica's Albert Blaize. Blaize survived the four rounder which was stopped several times as ringside doctors tended to his bleeding nose. Cetoute picked-up St.Lucia's third title after easily disposing of Lennon Bannis of Dominica on points. Former champions Dominica was also on the losing end again after Lester Seraphine crumbled against a rampaging Keithland King of St.Vincent and the Grenadines in a welter weight bout. The referee was forced to stop the contest in the third round with blood oozing from the face of Seraphine.
