The Grenada Sailing Festival, presented by Port Louis and Camper & Nicholsons Marinas, will enjoy world-class coverage when it hosts a celebrated group of international media at the 2009 event.

Organisers are delighted to welcome back world-renowned nautical, sailing and boating photographer Onne van der Wal, returning to Grenada for 2009 after a year’s break. Onne has been a great supporter of the event for several years as official Festival photographer, and has been instrumental in helping the young event to grow by gaining extensive feature and pictorial coverage in many of the top international yachting, lifestyle and travel magazines. These include Southern Boating, SAIL Magazine and Sailing; Yachting World, Cruising World and Nautique; plus In-Flight Magazines for Air Jamaica, LIAT, BWIA, American Airlines and Excel. Onne’s pictures have also gained front covers for the event on Sailing, SAIL and Cruising World Magazines.

Onne will be joined by Susan Maffei Plowden (“Suma”). Suma is a world-class PR and event consultant, specialising in the marine industry and particularly international sailing events. Most recently these have included the America’s Cup and the Volvo Ocean Race.  She is also a media consultant on Rolex’s international yachting events worldwide, including the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and the International Rolex Regatta in St.Thomas. She has written for a number of publications including Yachting, Sailing, Sailing World, and Conde Nast Traveller.

The Festival will also be covered by Acquafilms, a company specialising in custom yachting movies and quality DVD promotional material shot in High Definition. Based in Antigua, Acquafilms was started up in 2005 and its founding partners Roddy Grimes-Graham & Iain McGlashan offer the benefit of 24 years combined experience in still photography, video and filmmaking. They come to Grenada after a busy 2008, filming the Super Yacht Cup in Palma de Mallorca, the Antigua Classics and St Barth’s Bucket. The Company has also covered Antigua Sail Week.

Festival Chairman Jimmy Bristol commented: “Although our event is still young in relation to other Caribbean regattas, we have a unique mix of international and traditional sailing. This provides great, refreshingly different material for stories, pictures and footage, so we are delighted to welcome Onne, Suma & Acquafilms to help us showcase this, and all Grenada has to offer, to a world-wide audience.”

The Grenada Sailing Festival presented by Port Louis and Camper & Nicholsons, in association with the Grenada Board of Tourism will be run from Friday 30 January to Tuesday 3 February and will be four days of International yacht racing, together with the traditional two-day Digicel Work Boat Regatta. The organisers also thank True Blue Bay, plus Captains’ Club Members for 2009: British Airways; Colombian Emeralds; Mount Gay Rum; Heineken; North South Wines; ScotiaBank and United Insurance; and Crew Club Members: Budget Marine; Boval; Island Dreams Yacht Services; TSL Grenada Ltd.; 809 Design and COT Media group.
