When a good idea
germinates the people
who stand to benefit
directly are
hopeful, when the
idea graduates into
plans they are excited
but when these
plans become reality
and the manifestations
are there for all
to observe then people
are enthused and
satisfied.
It is at this point that
those who believed are
absolved and their
belief is justified and
those who did not
believe look a little
sheepish and more than
likely get on board.
Few if any investor
promising a major
developmental project
to Grenada have produced
at all, certainly
not with the speed and
reliability of Zublin
Grenada Limited. Evidence
of the company’s
businesslike, no nonsense
nature, stand as
elegant and imposing
edifices, greatly
enhancing the beauty
and sophistication of
the City of St. George.
While suitably proud of
its accomplishments so
far, Zublin does not consider
its work done in
Grenada. In fact there
are lots more it would
like to do to further promote
the development
of the city and the country
overall.
WINSTON WHYTE, DIRECTOR OF ZUBLIN GRENADA According to Director of
Zublin Grenada, Mr.
Winston Whyte, the
company is still willing,
ready and able to do
what it conceptualized.
Although certain
aspects of the proposed
St. George’s Revitalization
Project are in
doubt since the property
has now been sold to
another investor Zublin
is willing to work with
that investor to effectively
execute the total
revitalization since it is
in his interest as well.
From the onset Zublin’s
vision was the wideranging
development
and improvement of the
infrastructure and
business activities in
the St. George’s area
including the Carenage.
Zublin, through Whyte
expresses its continuing
interest in for
example, the megayacht
facility that was
in its original plan.
This, the company is
prepared to do in collaboration
with Mr.
Peter De Savary the
investor who is now
developing the Mt.
Pandy, Lagoon Road
and surrounding areas
into a giant tourist
resort.
Zublin, Whyte said is
still interested in the
project. It has done
what it was supposed to
do in terms of conceptualization,
design etc.
Zublin has had some
discussions with De
Savary, Whyte said and
has found him a person
the company can work
with towards the overall
goal of assisting to
bring real development
to Grenada.
As white explained it is
ultimately in the interest
of Grenada and
Grenadians to have a
total uplift in St.
George’s. The emphasis
will be on proficiency,
the retention of the
legacy of the past,
esthetics, and also the
creation of new economic
zones which would
create high levels of
financial activity and
by logical extension the
creation of jobs. BRUCE STREET COMMERCIAL COMPLEX
White said while the
total St. George’s Revitalization
Project is
something Zublin
would still love to do
the company cannot
speak for and on behalf
of the Government of
Grenada.
Although according to
the local Zublin official,
the company continually
and constantly places
it interest in the development
of Grenada and
the welfare of Grenadians
in focus and the
government is mindful
of this.
The government however,
he said, will have its
own timetable because
they are at the vantage
point where they can
see the totality of
things but he is convinced
that in the fullness
of time all things
will work together for
good.
Referring to what
Zublin has already
achieved, Whyte said
people who come from
abroad are amazed by
what they see in terms
of the land reclamation
and the speed with
which buildings in particular
the new, modern
Esplanade Mall have
been constructed. The
mall alone he revealed
has provided 363 new
jobs with its high level
of commercial activity
ranging from duty free
facilities to high end
shopping.
He is heartened by the
number of local entrepreneurs
including
quite young Grenadians
who have availed
themselves of the
opportunity to establish
themselves in business
and provide a high
quality service in very
pleasant and conducive
surroundings.
The mall is now 100%
occupied and the tenants
are extremely
happy about themselves
and the quality
of their place of business.
About the original
Zublin plans for the
Carenage, Whyte said
they would really love
to enhance the area and
make it compliment
what has been done on
Melville and Bruce
Streets.
He described the Carenage
as a beautiful part
of the city and it can be
made incomparably
beautiful by executing
the project that has
been conceptualized but
Whyte thinks it is just a
matter of time.
Initially when Zublin
signed the joint venture
agreement with the
Watson Group and
forged the public/private
partnership with
the government and
people of Grenada the
plan was for 3 or 4
buildings to house
many activities which
would compliment and
be almost symbiotic
with the establishment
of the cruise port.
