March 12th, 2009 – Kingston Jamaica: Digicel Jamaica has today filed a lawsuit against LIME/C&W for defamation. This latest lawsuit has been launched by Digicel in response to the damaging allegations made in the media by C&W/LIME on 7th and 8th January 2009 accusing Digicel of blocking calls to Jamaica from C&W/LIME’s customers across the region. C&W/LIME further charged that Digicel had defied an order from the OUR in this regard. Digicel maintains that these allegations are totally untrue.

Digicel has sued, not only C&W/LIME as a company, but has also sued C&W/LIME’s Chief Executive, Richard Dodd, personally.
Digicel Group’s CEO, Colm Delves, comments; “We were disgusted by C&W/LIME’s wholly unfounded allegations against us and the accusations it leveled at Digicel of engaging in anti-competitive and arrogant behavior.

“To be clear, Digicel has at no point blocked calls to any other operator – indeed it is actually C&W/LIME that has an injunction awarded against it for call blocking. As such, we strongly urge C&W/LIME to get its facts right before going to the press with false and inflammatory statements.

“In the meantime, our focus will remain the same as it has always been – namely on delivering best value, best service and best coverage to our near two million customers in Jamaica.”
