The Grenada Board of Tourism and the Ministry of Sports are coordinating a project that will bring major visibility to Grenada within the important U.K. market. Grenada was fortunate to be selected as the country where three (3) British women will be filmed running an eight-mile route as part of their ultimate participation in the London Marathon on April 22, 2009.
ITV Television in London England has organized a morning programme called “The Challenge of Your Life”. It sets out to transform the lives of five (5) women by giving them a special task to complete. Launched in August 2008 the Show’s producers invited viewers to contact them if they were looking for a remarkable challenge in their lives. Hundreds of persons responded for all sorts of reasons ranging from illness, bereavement, divorce, or simply wanting a bit of “me time’. They all had in common the need for a fresh new challenge which would help boost their self-esteem and raise money for the charities of their choice. After a series of rigorous selection, five persons were chosen. In November 2008, two of them successfully completed their challenge as they cycled an incredible 250 miles around Cuba.
The three remaining ladies, namely Nicki Hirst (age 32), Sandi Lapper (age 62), and Pat Baggott (age 52), have been training in all types of weather conditions for their challenge in the London Marathon. On Sunday March 22nd at 3:00 p.m. the three of them will run from the Grenada National Stadium, along Melville Street, through the Sendall Tunnel, onto the Carenage, Lagoon Road, Grand Anse, Maurice Bishop Highway, culminating at La Source in Point Salines, St. George’s.
The general public is invited to support them and be part of a filmed audience as they engage in this historic run.
