April 2009 – The recent growth in Grenada’s yachting industry has led to a rebirth of the yacht services sector. Grenada has historically been a yachting destination with excellent yachting facilities, however, with the development of Camper & Nicholson’s Port Louis Marina this sector has grown tremendously and in turn offers great opportunities for increase business in Grenada.

From chandleries, to tour guides, Grenada has all the essentials needed for the 300 foot mega yacht or the 30 foot sail boat. This growth has enabled a number of Grenadian entrepreneurs to develop businesses to support the increased number of yachts which come to sail and explore Grenada’s scenic waters.

One such entrepreneur is Mrs. Claire Spronk, who owns and operates Spronk’s Mega Yacht Provisioning and The Gourmet Store. Claire and her team have been providing services to Camper & Nicholsons’ Port Louis Marina from its inception in Grenada and have been pleased with the relationship developed with Camper & Nicholsons’. “The marina has been of great value to my business, simply by attracting more mega-yachts to Grenada.  The Camper & Nicholson’s brand is very well-known and respected in the yachting world and that has attracted a lot of boats down here that may not have necessarily come otherwise,” Claire remarked.
Beyond her own business Claire has also been observing how the industry has benefited Grenada.  She believes that the yachting industry is contributing in a very important way to Grenada’s economy.  Claire noted that, “These boats bring revenue in countless ways including Customs, Immigration, Ports Authority and marina charges; foodstuff for the yachts, fuel, flowers, taxi, airport transfer fares and much more.  The revenue from the yachting sector filters right through our economy, from the Immigration and Customs departments to our local fishermen & farmers.”

Spronk Provisioning provides Customs & Immigration clearance assistance; parts procurement; assistance with booking dockage; arrangements for island tours & airport transfers (including limousine hire); assistance with obtaining bulk  fuel & oil; coordination of piloting; booking charter planes; booking spa treatments; and making restaurant reservations. They also offer a full provisioning service fulfilling all the yacht’s food, beverage and flower requests.
