Grenada has topped the list in three categories in Dream World Cruise Destination magazine survey of 231 ports for 2008. Grenada, , copped top places for the most improved terminal facilities, most improved tourism destination and most efficient terminal operator, the only Caribbean destination recognized in those categories. The most improved destination is described as improvement to the tourism product and infrastructure assessing improvement in the town centre, landscaping traffic flow, provision of transport, access to tourism information new attractions and experiences.
Other destinations included in this category are Turkey, Portugal and Vietnam.
The terminal facility described in the reputable travel magazine as the most improved, is determined by the quality of service, whether through construction of new buildings or as a result of refurbishment, delivering new technology bonded baggage services, or improvement to security communications or services to the passenger. The other destinations listed in this category are Malaga - Spain, New Orleans - USA and Ponta Delgada – Azores. Grenada also won, along with Germany and Gibraltar, in the category of most efficiently and operated terminal. The quality and professionalism of Grenada’s tour guides was also commended by the magazine. Two other Caribbean countries, Antigua – Barbuda and Barbados were also commended for the quality of services delivered by tour guides. “This is a signal to us that we should maintain the quality of our tourism product if we are to keep our competitive advantage in this global market. It also speaks to the fact that all sectors must work together to build Grenada’s brand in the international market,” said Minister for Tourism Hon. Peter David.
