The word is out among sailors in the region that Port Louis Marina and Grenada have some of the best facilities on offer. This strong message is coming from the participants at the recently held 21st Antigua Classic Regatta and the 42nd Annual Antigua Sailing Week Regatta held from April 25th to May 1st in Antigua. Marketing Coordinator of Camper and Nicholsons Port Louis Marina Danny Donelan attended both of these events and he says he is very encouraged by the feedback he has received from boat owners, boat captains and crew memebers. Mr. Donelan used the opportunity to promote the marina while he was in Antigua and said that many of the attendees had already heard and read about the marina and were planning to come next season.
“We believe that the marina will have a very busy 2009 to 2010 season. The marketing and public relations we have done in the region has spread the word about our amenities, facilities and service. Yatchsmen are also in awe about the absolute beauty of the marina and we are readying ourselves for a very busy season,” Donelan remarked.
Besides looking at the yachting season Camper and Nicholsons Port Louis marina is also set on becoming one of the more popular home ports in the region. Introducing the captains and crews to Port Louis Marina as a home port was another one of the reasons why Marketing Coordinator Danny Donelan made the trip to the Antigua Sail Week.
“Our marina at Port Louis is one of the better hurricane holes in the Caribbean. Because of our location below the traditional hurricane belt, and the protection offered by the lagoon from intense seas, boat captains and crew members are looking at us as a base for their boats during the hurricane season. We doubt that many of them will come this season because of prior commitments but we expect to see them maybe next year,” said Donelan.
The Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta was first started in the 1988 and has maintained a steady growth, hosting between 50 and 60 yachts every year. It enjoys a wonderful variety of competitors including traditional craft from the islands, classic ketches, sloops, schooners, yawls, together with the stunningly beautiful Spirit of Tradition yachts, J Class yachts, and Tall Ships.
The 42nd Annual Antigua Sailing Week Regatta is now one of the premier sailing regattas in the world.
