OECS Leaders attending the 49th Authority meeting in Tortola, have agreed to the establishment of an OECS Tourism Authority.
The agreement came today following discussions on the implications of the global and regional financial crises for OECS tourism and construction sectors.
The Ministers of Tourism also discuss the role of the private sector in charting the way forward for the industry.
A number of measures were discussed including close monitoring of the pricing policy and practice for cement, the feasibility of establishing arrangements for joint procurement of cement, lumber and steel as well as strict enforcement of the OECS building code.
Other issues highlighted were the implications of the air charges to be implemented by the United Kingdom and the possible negative effects to the sub-region's tourism industry.
