Petite Martinique was abuzz with activity last weekend as the LIME Petite Martinique Whitsuntide Regatta was staged. There was entertainment for everyone and the organizers were pleased with the level of participation. Host island Petite Martinique led the way, having the most boats in the contest. Participation also came from neighboring islands including Carriacou, Union and Mayreau. The boat racing was keenly contested in all of the categories from Saturday until the final races on Monday. Sunday turned out to be a day of spectacular sailing with great sportsmanship. The boats topping their various classes at the end of the day were:
• Margeto C (sloop Category) • Solo (Stern Boat Category) • Full Force (Double Ender Category)
More sailing and beach activities continued on Monday as laughter rang out when the crying competition was staged. Other attractions were the Beer Drinking, Tug-o-War and Treasure Hunt which provided great entertainment for children and adults alike. The weekend’s activities were enhanced with the LIME 7 Happy Days promotion and great handset specials. According to Marketing Manager, Vidyarani Singh, “LIME is pleased to be the platinum sponsor of this regatta. It is a much anticipated event in the lives of Petite Martiniquans and a platform to showcase their superior seamanship. Clearly, a lot of effort was put into the organizing of the regatta by the Super 5 committee and by all appearances everyone enjoyed the activities. Sailing is a great sport and a very important one to the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique and LIME is pleased to assist with keeping this important maritime tradition alive”
Chairman of the organizing Committee; Dexter Miller thanked LIME for sponsoring the event this year. He said, “The event has been lacking financial support over the last few years and with sponsorship from LIME we were able to stage a successful and exciting event this year. We are pleased with the way the regatta turned out and look forward to partnering with LIME going forward.
