FIRSTCARIBBEAN OFFICIALS WITH ANDRE FLETCHER AFTER HE WAS NAMED MAN OF THE MATCH St.George’s, Grenada, October 14, 2009 - Senior Branch Manager and Country Head for FirstCaribbean Grenada- Mr. Nigel Ollivierre, on Sunday October 11th, congratulated Grenada and West Indies batsman Andre Fletcher, after he was named ‘man of the match’ in the World XI against West Indies legends in the Grenada Cricket Classic Twenty20 matches played over the weekend at the Grenada National Stadium.
Fletcher secured the FirstCaribbean prize, after he delighted the crowd with stroke play that sent the ball to various parts of the ground, in a “masterful and stroke-filled” batting display.
This was the fourth consecutive year that FirstCaribbean threw its support behind the tournament, that Mr. Ollivierre described as “having so much potential” for Grenada’s sport tourism development. Sponsorship included financial support to the organisers of the event Grenada Sport Ltd in conjunction with The Grenada Board of Tourism and the Ministry of Sports. The sponsorship also allowed for Corporate Branding on the players and umpires uniforms (caps and shirts) as well as give-a ways to the spectators.
“We saw a masterful batting performance from young Fletcher, who adjusted well to the playing surface. It reflected our own values as a bank, as we remain steadfast, yet flexible in this time of global economic downturn,” said Mr. Larry Lawrence FirstCaribbean Grenada recently appointed Head of Corporate Banking, following the West Indies Classics Team win.
Former FirstCaribbean Grenada Country Manager, Mr. Ricardo Charles, now Head of Corporate Banking FirstCaribbean Barbados, attended the event and said his First Caribbean's support for the Grenada Cricket Classics, is based on the activity’s capability to help stimulate the local economy, once given the proper support.
“We are part of the fabric of Grenada and the Caribbean and we will work with the community to ensure growth and development of the sectors that are important to the communities we serve. When we invest in a venture like this, the success will not be immediate, but the Grenada Cricket Classics is a unique product that, over time, can bring more visitors into Grenada,” Mr. Charles said.
The bank used the opportunity to entertain over one hundred of its customers, staff and their families during the two-day event.
