The local manager explains that when the company began operations here on December1 2005 it had 23 employees, this number has now swelled to 56. These include guards, bank tellers, supervisors, cash in transit officers and administrative staff.

The banking support service offered by G4S is a first and still offered by no other security company in Grenada. In delivering this service, the company counts and records cash amounts for the financial institutions such as banks.

Before they got to outsource this task Phillip said bank’s attention was drawn from serving people to counting cash. Now they have more time to provide banking services and deal with people. The cash processing activities at the G4S offices are monitored by camera because once they take the money from the bank they accept full responsibility for it. After it is counted it is stored in a vault on the compound and delivered to the banks on request.

To ensure the integrity and honesty of its staff, the police must vet all G4S recruits who will be carrying firearms and their police record must be clean. All guards undergo due diligence checks and some of the operatives are ex-policemen. The company operates with fully armored vehicles which makes both the cash cargo and the people in the vehicle safer. So far there has never been an incident. This high level of security is backed up by the fact that that all monies and valuables handled by G4S are fully insured by the company’s global insurance.

As manager Phillip is responsible for marketing and public awareness, recruitment, human resource management, preparation of proposals and of budget and reporting to head office.
