ImageImageImageImageMonday 12th March, 2007: Participants in the Department of Youth Development’s IMANI Programme are making a contribution to the nation’s preparation for Cricket World Cup 2007. One such group has helped in the beautification of the River Road / Cemetery Hill area by painting the Walls leading to the Grenada National Stadium.

This project is part of the Community Service aspect of the programme which involves the Trainees giving back to their communities. IMANI Trainee Marcia Noel stated that the project was chosen due to the state of the wall and its location on the main access route to the National Stadium. Trainees Cassandra Telesford stated that the project was also done for the River Road Community as many of the Trainees themselves live in the area.

Anderson Gaskin Senior Assistant Youth Officer attached to the Town of St. George said that he pleased to see the enthusiasm of the Trainees and encouraged them to continue in the area of community volunteerism. Mr. Gaskin also thanked Senator the Honourable Brenda Hood for her assistance in making the project a reality.

The project will continue on to the Melville Street and Cemetery Hill areas upon the completion of the road works in those areas. This project follows on the heels of some twenty IMANI Trainees who are attached t the General Hospital having been trained as Emergency Medical Technicians and several more playing other roles during the Cricket World Cup in several capacities.
