LEROY CADET, PRESIDENT, GRENVILLE CO-OPERATIVE CREDIT UNION The Grenville Co-operative Credit Union had its rebirth in January 1985. Two years later as of December 31st 1986 our membership was 229 and assets $56,147. For the past 22 years we have served our members within the state of Grenada well. We can proudly boast that our membership today stands at 6,692 and this makes us the 2nd largest credit union in the island in terms of membership while our assets not stand at $19.8 million placing us 4th in asset base.
Today however, in pursuit of our mission to bring our services and benefits to all persons, we have taken the decision with the cooperation of the management of the Belmont Estate to establish a branch here at the estate.
My dear brothers and sisters it is an honor and happy privilege for me, on behalf of the Board of Directors, other officers, the manager and staff to see this day finally come to pass. The hard work and sacrifice have paid off and we now look forward with great expectation towards the success of this project.
Our credit union is democratically controlled and provides members with the opportunity to pool their savings and use these savings to provide themselves with credit.
We recognize thrift as the wise use of one’s resources which includes credit. Our credit union has devoted itself to the task of developing regular thrift or savings programs to provide its members with a greater measure of financial security.
Our credit union continues to regard the character of the borrower as a prime security consideration regardless of the amount involved.
Management is always alert to the changing conditions and we will continue to adapt ourselves to the changing needs and desires of our members while we maintain our basic integrity and principles.
We continue to seek to bring about human and social development to our members and to the community at large in which we work and reside.
Our wide range of services are tailored and directed to improving the economic and social well being of all members. We also provide a wide range of loans and investment opportunities which we know will greatly benefit all members.
As President I take advantage of this opportunity to especially welcome all into the caring family of the Grenville Cooperative Credit Union.
Mr. Chairman, one year ago on this very day our credit union faced its darkest day in our history. The events of the day threatened the very existence of the organization. Our management being resilient rose to the challenge and remained steadfast and committed toward fulfilling our goals and objectives. Today one year later we are happy to establish this branch among the restaurant, plantation, museum and the beautiful garden of the Belmont Estate.
Brothers and sisters, I pray God’s blessing and success upon this branch and upon us all.
