Caribbean people to share their stories on new website PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 09 May 2007

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (May 08, 2007) – A new interesting and interactive website has been added to the World Wide Web giving Caribbean people of varying ages and backgrounds the opportunity to publish their stories, whether real-life or otherwise.
Launched at the beginning of May, 2007, www.CaribbeanRunnings.com is the first website of its kind in the Caribbean and will serve to pull the region's people even closer together as they read stories written by others and get a chance to write and publish stories of their own.

In addition to writing their stories and having them stored on the website, CaribbeanRunnings.com will also give Caribbean people, regardless of their current location, whether North America, Europe or the Middle East, the opportunity to share in and comment on the experiences of others.

Under the theme 'Bringing yesterday's stories to light,' www.CaribbeanRunnings.com will feature a new story each week.

Not only will CaribbeanRunnings.com encourage more reading among the region's people. The website will also encourage writing, documentation and storage of interesting stories in a manner that will make them available for future generations to read, whenever they like.

As an added incentive, CaribbeanRunnings.com will pay writers/contributors for all stories published on the site.

"Travelling throughout the Caribbean, I found that the people of this region all have one thing in common, everyone has a story to tell," CaribbeanRunnings.com's Publisher D.L. Brown said. "So I thought, why not create a website where these people can share their stories with others and at the same time get an opportunity to read stories written by other Caribbean people as well."

Brown, a Journalist by profession, has worked with Radio, Television and Newspaper outlets in Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. He has reported live for the Voice of America and NBC Nightly News. He has also worked as a writer for the Associated Press.

"CaribbeanRunnings.com will place special emphasis on the region's secondary school students, encouraging them to write," Brown added. "I will be approaching private and public sector organizations as well as embassies, seeking their collaboration in holding regular Writing Marathons and providing attractive rewards for the winners."

He explained that in keeping with the focus of the website, the writing marathons would involve students writing stories, the best of which would be published on the site. In addition to having their stories published, winners of the different categories would also receive other rewards.

"CaribbeanRunnings.com hopes to become the premiere Caribbean website for readers and writers," Brown said. "It's an excellent spot on the web for both readers and writers to exercise their minds too, so enjoy the stories as you log on to the site."
