Recently the Grenada Hotel & Tourism Association has seen a substantial and disturbing number of unsightly billboards spring up along the Maurice Bishop Highway and in the Grand Anse area, circling the Morne Rouge playing field.

While well designed billboards which educate the public are acceptable at bus shelters this growing menace is of grave concern as the general public is in danger of finding itself overwhelmed by the clutter.

Before too long badly built, poorly placed billboards fall over and may cause harm to innocent bystanders as well as posing a danger to nearby properties, particularly in the approaching hurricane season.

The GHTA welcomes the review being undertaken by the Physical Planning Department which, when completed and passed into law, would offer strict guidelines as to the use of lands, building restrictions and billboard placements.  Once passed, the GHTA will continue to lobby for the enforcement of these laws.

Grenada is known for its natural beauty and we who are fortunate enough to enjoy this beauty should be able to do so unimpeded by unnecessary man made ugliness.
