TERRY FORRESTER, ARD HUMAN SETTLEMENT COORDINATOR TIM BYAM EXAMINE DRAWINGS Venezuelan Vice Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean Hon. Dr. Rodolfo Sanz led a six member delegation to the Agency for Reconstruction and Development (ARD) on Wednesday morning to discuss details for completing infrastructural works at the Simon Bolivar Human Settlement at Lacalome.
The outstanding infrastructural works include construction of an access road into the Settlement, internal roads, drains, a 48-foot bridge, retaining walls, installation of water pipes and upgrading of the sewerage treatment plants, as well as connecting electricity from the poles to the houses.
The meeting was attended by officials from the ARD and the Housing Authority of Grenada (HAG). Following the meeting at the ARD, a brief ceremony was held at the Ministerial Complex, during which Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Gregory Bowen and Vice Minister Sanz signed the agreement for a $2 million (US) grant to fund the outstanding infrastructural works.
In response to Grenada’s housing needs following the passage of Hurricane Ivan, a Venezuelan military team constructed 100 units comprising single and semi detached homes at Lacalome. The Government of Grenada appointed the ARD as the executive agency to coordinate the infrastructural works for the Settlement.
