CARTAC Representatives Meet with Prime Minister Mitchell PDF Print E-mail

Wednesday, July 11, 2007, St. George’s:  A mission from the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC) is currently in Grenada  to discuss the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) in Grenada,  since CARTAC is instrumental in providing training and technical support for the process.
 
The Team is headed by Ms. Therese Turner, Programme Coordinator of CARTAC.  The other members of the team are Ms. Debra Adams, a Tax Adviser and Mr. Brian Dawne, a Tax and Customs Adviser.
 

As part of their visit, the team met with Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell on Wednesday July, 11th 2007 to discuss the VAT implementation process in Grenada. Team leader, Ms. Jones, congratulated Grenada on the tremendous progress made in the implementation process and pledged CARTAC’s ongoing support in the process. She also invited the Prime Minister to indicate any further assistance that Grenada may need as the process continues.
 
Prime Minister Mitchell reaffirmed Government’s commitment to the process, and explained that even though the implementation date of VAT had to be pushed back, the process in well on-stream for implementation in the New Year. Dr. Mitchell recommended that CARTAC work closely with the VAT Implementation Team in the Public Education aspect of the VAT implementation process and that they also provide support and training to the Inland Revenue in the collection of revenue and the appraisal of financial statements submitted to the department, as a means of strengthening the functioning of the department.
 
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to congratulate Ms. Jones on her role as Programme Director of CARTAC and to commend CARTAC their on their ongoing assistance to Grenada.
 
For the remainder of their stay in Grenada, the CARTAC team will be working closely with the VAT Implementation Team, the Customs and Excise Department and the Inland Revenue Department.
