Richard Nicolas

Chef/Operations Manager, Grenada, Richard Nicholas came across from his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago to deal specifically with Cricket World Cup.

He explained that that quickly changed to bigger and more things.
His duties included having to travel to other venues as part of a deployment team to observe preparation for the games and in getting ready for his role here had to put in some 18 hour days.
As operations manager Richard had to deal with many international players and individuals. Goddards was in charge of all food served at the stadium whether they prepared it or not and had to make sure that concessionaires did exactly what was expected of them. Richard said it was a challenge just getting people to accept the regulations and requirements that were necessarily in place for the event.

In the long run however, Richard thinks the interminably long working hours and the endless meetings that his boss in Grenada insisted on calling paid off and the result was that Grenada was the only island that did not suffer from first day mess-up.

They had heard the horror stories from the other islands before Grenada’s games arrived and had decided that they did not want it to happen here.
They therefore worked all those hours to ensure that it did not happen and everything ran smoothly the Ministry of health was happy and so were everyone else involved. Richard said it was a close to perfect first day.

Having worked in many different places around the world, the Operations Manager admitted that CWC is the largest thing he has ever been involved in and while he had a lot of fun he would prefer that he doesn’t have to work that hard again,(this with a laugh).

He attributed the successful execution of his duties to the fact that he had a great team members if which worked very hard to ensure that things were done.

Richard said all in all Grenada came through for CWC 2007 and it was a resounding success.

Simon- admits to having some misgivings in the early stages when considering the size of the undertaking but quickly adjusted to the new challenge and work load. One valuable lesson she came out of it all with was have fun when you have a lot of work to do.

There was a lot of support from the Goddard group through meetings, conference calls and personnel coming down to Grenada.

REECE SAM

When Reece Sam joined the Grenada arm of Goddard’s Catering it was strictly in preparation for ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 Goddard being the official Catering Solution Provider for the competition.

She said she was brought in at the later stages as part of the events planning team and everything she had to do was strictly about World Cup.

In the early part of her stint Reece explained she was based at the office and was in charge of the additional staffing that was necessary to prepare for the event.
It turned out there was a number of persons in the hospitality areas seeking part time employment and the opportunity to add Cricket World Cup to their resume.
Reece was then in charge of making sure they were properly trained and medically fit enough to have anything to do with food for the national stadium. Reece was also in charge of catering for the Posse and party stands, having to ensure that food was on time, people got the meals that their tickets indicated and the countless other little issues that had to be observed.

Although being trained and having a background in marketing helped make it easier for Reece to fit in with what was required she admits it was still a huge challenge but in the end the company came through and recorded a success.

She said Grenada did exceptionally well and performed better than all of the other islands and she attributes that to all of the hard work put in.

She has taken away some valuable experiences from having worked at the event among them the need to have more detailed action plans and dedicating work. The magnitude of the task meant making sure that everyone knew what was expected of them and to execute that responsibility since failure of one person to deliver could negatively affect the whole operation.

She has left this venture a more prepared and is happy to be ably to add Cricket World Cup to her resume. Reece said one of the strengths of Goddards is that people came from different with different experiences and worked as a team, putting things into perspective and ensuring successful match days in Grenada.
