Island Health Services Grenada LTD Accredited by the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) in Geneva
St. George's, Grenada – (Monday, July 16 th 2007) - The International Organization of Standardization for Quality has recognized, accredited and registered Island Health Services as a Quality Management System which complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 for "the provision of hemodialysis to patients with end stage renal disease." Island Health Services from its inception in November 2006, has been successfully treating dialysis patients and in addition, has been determined to overcome the obstacles of providing quality, international level healthcare in Grenada. As a result we embarked on a project to achieve ISO accreditation.
ISO is an international network of national standards institutes representing 147 countries. The organization is dedicated to setting quality standards that make the delivery of services more efficient, safer and cleaner. "Earning the ISO certification is a clear indication of Island Health Services commitment to quality healthcare," said Island Health Services CEO, Trevor Forrester." We strive to provide customers with high-quality patient care and doing so requires excellence in the way we provide dialysis and operate our company."
In order to qualify for ISO certification, an organization must create, implement, and document a system that measures the quality of its service and operating procedures. ISO looks for organizations whose policies reflect a high priority towards customer satisfaction, a dedication to quality, efficient service, and a commitment to providing its employees with a merit-based working environment that promotes individual performance.
"Island Health Services have been recommended for certification because they comply with all the requirements laid out in the ISO 9001:2000 standard," said Kenneth Barton, Lead Auditor from BSI- Quality Management and ISO Registrar from the U.S. "I was impressed with the dedication and commitment to quality demonstrated by Island Health Services."
This is only our first step in our list of accreditations to achieve, as we are about to begin our application for JACHO International accreditation, which is a branch of the medical standards organization that governs most medical facilities in the U.S. Last year we promised the people of Grenada quality healthcare that would meet and surpass those found in the Caribbean, this is the first step in continuing with that promise. These efforts are not merely for recognition, but to continuously improve and update our skills and practice, to match and even surpass those provide in the first world. "We are out to prove the point that quality healthcare can be achieved in Grenada, along with the forward thinkers and movers like St. George's School of Medicine and Minister Anne David-Antoine at the Ministry of Health, Island Health Services will take healthcare in Grenada to the next level," said the CEO.
Island Health Services would also like to thank the individuals and organizations which contributed to this triumph:
