Fisheries Division to Implement Vessel Monitoring System |

Tuesday August 4th 2007, St. George’s: In an effort to further enhance the safety of fishermen and their property, the fisheries Division with in the Ministry of Agriculture will be conducting a pilot project on the introduction of Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) technology in the fishing industry.
The system is expected to improve the safety of lives and property within the industry. In addition, increasing the security within the fishing waters by determining and eliminating illegal fishing activities. The installation of the VMS on vessels in Grenada will begin on Monday 10th September 2007 from 9:00am, with three (3) vessels on the Carenage, then two (2) vessels in Grenville and one (1) in St. John’s. Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS), a French Company has been contracted to execute the project.
