Building relationships “For a Better Tomorrow” is indeed a desirable undertaking and that is exactly what RBTT Bank of Grenada is planning to achieve with this year’s Young leaders Program.

The theme for the 2008 program is Bridging the Gap…Building Relationships for a Better Tomorrow. The participating schools and students are now going full speed ahead with their undertakings as the program was officially launched on January 11.

Launching the program RBTT”s Country Manager Ms. Cyrilla Gemon said that helping students to deal with the many challenges facing them in the society is one of the reasons for the Young leaders program.

She said the year ahead, like prior years brings with it the reality of rising crime, escalating costs and healthcare issues including the growing epidemic of HIV & AIDS.
It is therefore critical she said that programs are developed and introduced to work alongside the mainstream school curriculum.

“Programs,” Ms. Gemon said, “that would complement the education system and provide avenues to nurture and help mould our young people to help them reach their full potential and to channel their energies into positive programs and foster nation building and self actualization.”

Ms. Gemon stressed the RBTT Young leaders program is “the epitome of such an ideal”.
Now going into its eleventh year, she said the program was developed specifically to touch the lives of vulnerable youths in a positive manner and by extension to leave positive lasting impressions on their schools, their families and their communities.

Reiterating the objectives of the RBTT Young leaders’ program the local country manager said the purpose of the program is to help young people develop leadership skills, appreciate the value of teamwork in pursuit of common goals, further care for their communities and environment and to promote thrift towards strengthening the social, moral and economic well-being of the community.

She said an analysis of this objective would indicate that it touches on the very fabric of our society and that over the years the themes for projects have been developed with this in mind.

All things that promote team, nation building and personal satisfaction.
Gemon said the 2008 theme continues the bank’s legacy of introducing topics which are relevant and thought provoking as well as interesting, and they expect students to use their usual creativity to develop projects that will best express the theme.

According to the RBTT this year’s theme will allow students the opportunity to creatively explore, discover and thoroughly document the elements necessary to bridge the widening gaps in society.

Participants will be expected to address critical issues such as growing lack of respect for authority, low self-esteem, lack of sound morals/values and at the same time be innovative, resourceful and systematic in their research.

Their concept must be original and the execution of it credible and accurate.
The methodology must stand out in the documentation and should include a level of sustainability which may have wide ranging impact across chosen communities.

According to RBTT, the Young Leaders’ program is testimony of the institution’s commitment to mould and develop young minds and to steer the regions’ youth in  positive directions.
