CARICOM Secretary-General extends congratulations to Prime Minister Dean Barrow |

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), H.E. Edwin Carrington has extended congratulations and the support of the CARICOM Secretariat to the Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister of Belize. Prime Minister Barrow’s United Democratic Party (UDP) was victorious at elections in Belize on 7 February 2008.
In a congratulatory message, the Secretary-General wished Prime Minister Barrow a successful term in office and said that he was confident that the new administration would live up to the “high expectations of the Belizean people.” Mr. Carrington also said he looked forward to the continuing “valuable and vibrant participation” of the Government of Belize in the Organs and Bodies of the Community. “Also, please be assured of the support of the CARICOM Secretariat as we work towards the attainment of a viable, internationally competitive and sustainable Community that will redound to the improved welfare of all its peoples,” the Secretary-General said in his message. The full text of the message reads: Dear Prime Minister: On behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), I extend heart-felt congratulations to you and the United Democratic Party (UDP) on your resounding victory at the polls in the general elections held in Belize on 7 February 2008. The people of Belize, through their overwhelming support, have entrusted you with the future of their socio-economic development. I am confident that your administration will live up to the high expectations of the Belizean people. CARICOM looks forward to the continuing valuable and vibrant participation of the Government of Belize in the Organs and Bodies of the Community. Also, please be assured of the support of the CARICOM Secretariat as we work towards the attainment of a viable, internationally competitive and sustainable Community that will redound to the improved welfare of all its peoples. Please accept, Prime Minister, my best wishes for a successful term in office and the assurances of my highest esteem.
