Commissioner of Police Mr. Winston James has directed the divisional commanders of the Royal Grenada Police Force to heighten all community policing related activities, increase the visible presence of the force through mobile and foot patrols, and to be more proactive when dealing with criminals and related activities.

Commissioner James is also calling on parents, guardians and community leaders to assist the Police by continuing to engage our youth in more developmental programmes and functions and provide positive alternatives for our young people.

The Commissioner reminds the Nation that every citizen has a role to play in the fight against crime and a community that is positively involved and engaged is generally safer.

Mr. James is urging persons to use the Police Tips line 444-1958 to reports crimes and criminal activities, also to seek police assistance by calling 911 or the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner has ordered all divisions and operational units of the Force to immediately start engaging persons known to be involved in criminal activities and youth delinquency, with the primary objective to discourage such persons from carry or having access to cutlasses, knives and/or any other implements that could be use as a weapon.

Dialogue, meaningful reasoning and interaction must be the only tools we use when settling misunderstandings and dispute, says Commissioner James.

Preemptive searches would also be conducted on and around popular gathering spots and blocks in communities known to be affected by negative occurrences.

The Commissioner seeks the understanding and cooperation of the general public in this regard.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Winston James wishes to reiterate, that as a result of the recent murders there is no need for fear, but there is an urgent need for the Nation to exercise patience, restraint, and a greater sense of reasoning in settling disputes and altercations.

Comparing crime statistic from the region, Grenada is among the most peaceful nations, and the Royal Grenada Police Force is among the elite Forces especially in the area of crime detection, says Mr. James.

Since the passage of HURRICANE Emily, the Royal Grenada Police Force has come in for high praise, especially for its handling of security arrangements for Cricket World Cup, Carnival and Christmas 2007 and more recently its responses to the murders in February 2008.

The nation is assured that the Royal Grenada Police Force will continue to utilize all its resources to preserve law and order and provide a peaceful and safe environment.
