The hit Grenadian play Ay Ya Yai
Ivan by Richardo Keens-Douglas
was a resounding success in London,
England. Ay Ya Yai Ivan was
performed at the Hackney Theatre
Oceans in London and from
the moment the lights went up on
the stage the audience were “in
awe” as one patron put it.
The
theatre was packed and every
night the company of actors
received standing ovations.
Grenadians as well as non Grenadians
filled the theatre and left
with tears and laughter in their
hearts. The critics said – “It is one
of the best things to come out of
the Caribbean, and it should be on
the West End in London.- The
Broadway of England), It is a well
crafted musical play telling the
story of Hurricane Ivan”.

The play really brought home
what happened in Grenada during
the hurricane. The play was so
well received that they have been
invited to return to London for
repeat performances.
Opening night audience included
the Grenada High Commissioner
Mr. Joe Charter and Mrs. Charter,
Baroness Ros Howells, Lance Corporal Johnson Bharry VC, and
High Commissioners from other
countries.

Proceeds from the production will
go towards the Grenada rebuilding
fund in England.
Special Kudos to Patsy Cummings
and the Grenada International
Foundation Trust, Hackney
Empire Theatre, and High Commissioner
Mr. Joe Charter for
bringing this hit play to the people
of London. In an interview with
BBC, Mr. Keens-Douglas made it
known to the English population
that Grenada is coming back beautifully
and it’s the best place to
spend Christmas so all are invited
to come down for black cake and
sorrel.
