ImageTop officials of the National Democratic Congress have accused the New National Party of engaging in lies and scare tactics in the bid to stop the NDC winning the July 8 general election.

The accusations were leveled Tuesday night by NDC Leader Tillman Thomas and his deputy Leader George Prime, the candidate for Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Prime said NNP members have not only been agitating New National party supporters, but have also been seeking to put fear in the minds of the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique.

Thomas, for his part, charged that the NNP's ploy is also an attempt to gain the sympathy of voters and to avoid dealing with critical issues such as jobs and healthcare.

At a news conference on Monday, NNP officials alleged that there was vandalism at their constituency office in St. David, along with threats on the lives of the candidate for that constituency.

When contacted about the NNP's allegation, the NDC said in a statement that "the only reports we have had on the issue is what the New National Party officials have been quoted as saying, and we know the New National Party doesn't have a history of telling the truth.  But, if by chance any aspect of the report is true, then it should be a police matter that should be investigated.  Our adherence to a code of conduct is undisputed.   That's not the case with the New National Party."

In response to allegations on the NNP's political platform that the National Democratic Congress has been advising Grenada's youth to plant marijuana rather than get involved in agriculture, the NDC dismissed the charge as baseless and laughable, saying they could only have been concocted by a desperate dying regime, which will do anything in its vain attempt to hold on to power.
