DR. FRANCIS ALEXIS A candidate of Dr. Francis Alexis' People's Labour Movement (PLM) has withdrawn from the general election race and is throwing his support behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Businessman Dorset Charles is upset that Dr. Alexis, a constitutional lawyer, has decided to forge an alliance with attorney Reynold Benjamin and the Grenada United Labour Party (GULP) to contest the July 8 poll. Charles said the decision by Dr. Alexis was the "wrong move,'' and the GULP was the "wrong party'' with which the PLM to align itself.
"To join a faction of the GULP – a dead faction, a confused faction – it was one of the most terrible moves ever made,'' said Charles. "I was the first one (in the PLM) who stood up and said I was not going to be part of that – never.''
Charles, who describes himself as a "straightforward'' man, says he cannot work with Benjamin, and has called on his supporters to vote for the NDC in next month's general election.
This was the second endorsement received in a week by the NDC by someone from another party. Earlier, GULP member and former Opposition Leader Michael Baptiste made a public appeal to supporters of the Grenada United Labour Party to cast their ballots for the NDC.
