SKILL YOUTHS - WINNING FEELS GOOD MRS. HENRIQUES PRESENTING AWARD The team known as Skill Youths was victorious in the RBTT Sponsored National 4 a-side Small Goal Night Football Competition. They played the championship game against Alexis Mardis Gras on Sunday 8th June at the Carenage Hard Court.
RBTT Bank under its Heart of the Community initiative sponsored this National Small Goal Night football which was spearheaded by Tropix Entertainment. A total of 39 teams from parishes throughout Grenada registered for the tournament which began on Sunday 12th April 2008.
Tropix Entertainment and RBTT Bank sought to use this competition to give “On the Block” youth an outlet to develop friendships, networks and self identity. RBTT’s Heart of the Community programme began in 2006 and seeks to place greater emphasis on widespread impact and sustainability of community programmes as we build human capacity.
The second leg of the competition began on May 30th where the top four teams from each zone competed in a knockout round on a home and away basis. The first leg of the round of 16 took place at the Victoria Hard Court, with the second leg taking place at the Carenage Hard Court, where teams played each other to move on to the Big 8, the third round of the tournament.
The successful teams Skill Youths, Alexis Mardi Gras, Party Strikers, West Side, Rockers, Do Ting, Marquis Dolphins and Cherry Hill participated in the Big 8. Alexis Mardi Gras and Skill Youths proved too much for their opponents and emerged as the teams to challenge each other for the ultimate crown of the first ever “RBTT Night Football National Small Goal Champions”.
With fans cheering them on, the teams played to a goals draw during the regulation time and were still scoreless at the end of the extra time. Skill Youths however proved the better of the two teams when Johnny Purcell converted the final penalty to give Skill Youths the victory after a miss by Keith Jacob of Alexis Mardi Gras.
RBTT Bank wishes to congratulate all of the teams that participated in the competition.
