Peter David has been successfully nominated as a candidate for the Town of St. George in the upcoming General Elections amidst fears that there were moves on to prevent him.

David, the candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress made a dramatic entrance into the city on his way to the Parliamentary Elections Office closely accompanied by his lawyers, an alternative and scores of supporters.

David the Member of Parliament for the constituency for the last parliamentary term strode confidently down Market Hill, down Granby Street, up Halifax Street and onto Gore Street where the Elections office is located.

David’s entourage on this journey included attorneys Anselm Clouden, Ruggles Ferguson and Ferron Lowe; former NDC candidate for the Town of St. George, Mr. Kent Joseph; Chairman of the NDC Mr. Colin La Barrie and a vocal, very defiant crowd of yellow clad NDC and Peter David supporters.

As David accompanied by his team of lawyers and Kent Joseph went in to sign his nominated forms and pay his deposit the crowd milled around in the streets anxiously awaiting news. After what seemed like an eternity cheers broke out among them when the news came out that everything was okay.

Since earlier this week the news had been circulating that there were plans by the government and it controversial Jamaican Legal Advisor, Hugh Wildman to Prevent David and possibly NDC candidate for St. George North East Nazim Burke from successfully becoming contestants for the General Elections on grounds of dual citizenship.

This had caused grave concern among NDC supporters some of whom vowed that they would not take this easily as this matter being fought by Wildman and the Keith Mitchell administration had already been heard in various courts five times and each time David had emerged victorious.

Joseph was nominated as an independent candidate and will contest the seat for the NDC in the event that any new method is found to successfully bar David from contesting.

It is the general feeling of the population that the NNP administration is desperately afraid of David and Burke and would do anything to keep them out of parliament if the NNP were to win another term in office.

Others believe that they need not bother since the prospects of the NNP winning these elections are very poor.
