In December 2007 a total of $1.1M was paid to Police Officers for Back-pay relating to the year 2006.
 
Back- pay for the year 2006 due to Public Officers except Teachers was paid on February 13th this year.  This amounted to $2.6M.  The total back-pay to Pensioners amounted to $1.1M.  A total of $3.7M was paid out in February.
 
Back-pay for Police and Public Officers including Prison Officers for 2007 is being paid today June 18th, 2008. The total amount to be paid is $8,942,451.46 which is broken-down as follows: -
 
Police:                                      -                        $1,803,490.81
 
Public Officers including Prisons            -         $5,380,664.38
 
Sub Total                                                           $7,184,155.19
 
Pensioners                    -                                   $1,758,296.27
 
Grand Total                                                       $8,942,451.46
 
The one off payment due to all Public Officers would be paid on or before August 31st, 2008.  This is projected to be in the region of $2.5M.
 
With regard to the Teachers’ settlement which was recently concluded, the back-pay for teachers is expected to be as follows: -
2006     -           $2.3M  - to be paid on or before August 31st, 2008
 
2007     -           $4.5M   - to be paid on or before October 31st, 2008
 
2008     -           $6.6M  – Salaries to be adjusted by July 31st, 2008 and the difference to be paid   
                           by December 15th, 2008.
 
The one-off payment of $876,000.00 is expected to be paid on or before January 31st, 2009.
 
Based on all the increases agreed to between the Government of Grenada and the Public Workers Union, the Grenada Union of Teachers, Police and Prison Officers the total Payroll bill for the Government of Grenada for 2008 would increase from $12.5M per month or $154.8M per annum, to $19.7M per month or $236.4M per annum.
 
The total pension benefits for Public Officers for 2008 have now increased to $1,882,616.21 per month.
