Wages Advisory Committee meet to consider Minimum Wage in Trade and Industry |

Minister for Labour, Claris Charles has appointed a Wage Advisory Committee to investigate the conditions of employment in the general areas of trade and industry.
The Committee, which recently held its first meeting at the Department of Labour, is mandated to look at the minimum wage which should be paid to workers in thirteen areas including: industrial workers, clerical workers, domestic workers, bus conductors, workers in bakeries, agricultural workers and non-unionized workers in stores. This mandate is in keeping with the Government of Grenada's commitment to take steps to improve the situation of those workers identified. The members of the Wage Advisory Committee are as follows; · Chairman - Former Permanent Secretary and Labour Commissioner, Mr. Abel Newton; · Two representatives each from The Grenada Employers Federation, and The Grenada Trades Union Council; and · The Labour Consultant at Labour Department. · The Secretary to the Committee is an Officer at the Department of Labour. The committee has been given six months to submit the report of its findings and make recommendations to the Minister for Labour.
