NIGEL BAPTISTE & PETER DE SAVARY

NIGEL BAPTISTE
Peter de Savary has always been keen to assist where he can with the development of Grenada's young people. Whether through charitable donations, community projects or through his attendance at the recent IMANI conference, Mr. De Savary is always ready to lend a helping hand. In his latest venture, Mr. de Savary has fully sponsored a young Grenadian golfer to attend the highly respected CARNEGIE Abbey Golf Club in Newport Rhode Island in the USA for the summer.
Nigel Baptiste a resident of Golf Course, St. George's has represented de Savary and Port Louis at a number of Caribbean tournaments and performed most respectfully always finishing in the top 10. However, in order to hone his skills on a world class links course he is spending the summer working on the acclaimed Carnegie Abbey caddie program also affording him the opportunity to play the course and better his overall game.
De Savary has sponsored Baptiste by paying his flights and living costs at the Club of which de Savary himself is the Chairman and Founder.
Mr. Baptiste will be an intern on the clubs caddie program which is regarded as one of the best in the United States. He will be possibly caddying twice a day, and will walk the 7000 yard course instructing and assisting players and members with their game.
In his time off Mr. Baptiste will play the course as well as compete in Club Championships throughout the state of Rhode Island.
When questioned about the internship Resident Director Richard Hallam was quoted as saying: "There are young people in Grenada with talent and drive that don't have the resources to further that drive. We believe that by affording youths like Nigel Baptiste the opportunity and experience to work and study abroad and further their passion they will return to the island invigorated and motivated to help others and pass on the skills they learn.
Upon speaking to Mr. Baptiste in the United States he was most grateful for the opportunity "I want to first thank Peter de Savary and Port Louis for this amazing opportunity, I am here at a world class facility learning things I never could in Grenada. I am also meeting many affluent and influential people and telling them about Grenada and what a wonderful island it is, I hope to make my country and my family proud and will return to Grenada with skills and experiences I never had before."
