The Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and regional Business Support Organisations (BSOs) on Wednesday August 13th 2008 conducted an export development seminar for participants from Grenada who are carded to be exhibitors at the 15th Caribbean Gift and Craft Show, which will take place at the Sherbourne Conference Centre in Barbados from October 2-5, 2008. This year’s exhibition will be held under the theme “Celebrating Handmade Designs and Caribbean Traditions”.
In his address at the opening ceremony, Minister for State Hon. Michael Church said that “The Government will make a significant contribution to ensure that the representatives participate in the upcoming exhibition to the best of their ability… and take full advantage of the opportunities presented to them.” He further stated that in order to position themselves strategically in the marketplace, the craft producers must continuously strive to fashion their approaches that would locate and relocate their products in progressively advantageous positions in an increasingly diversified market place.
As a means of facilitating the success of the exhibition and guaranteeing that exhibitors ‘are at their best’ for the show, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) is providing financial assistance for new exhibitors and for old exhibitors with a new product, participating in the exhibition.
The Caribbean Export Development Agency is also a key player in the process with one of their main objectives being ‘to enhance the competitiveness of Caribbean firms”.
The seminar held on Wednesday formed part of a series of export development seminars targeted at artisans, craft producers and prospective exhibitors to the 15th Caribbean Gift and Craft Show. Similar seminars were held in Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Saint Lucia and St. Kitts & Nevis.
