Shopping for anything,
goods or services can
be a very tricky task. Is
this the best one that
the money can buy? Is
it worth the price? How
does it compare to that
of the competition?
All those questions go
through the shoppers’
mind and the answers can
be argued back and forth
depending on the taste
and opinion of the individual
shopper.
In the end most likely the
prudent and thrifty shopper
will opt for the goods
and services that provide
the best combination of
attributes, quality, outstanding
service, uniqueness,
innovation and a
relentless dedication to
making sure the customer
is, well… pampered.
When Ms. Collene
Bernard established Mind
& Body Therapy Spa &
Boutique on H. A. Blaize
Street, she no doubt was
well aware of these things,
therefore she planned and
set up her operation with
them in mind.
In this two in one operation,
one aspect will not be
outdone by the other and
therefore both the spa and
the boutique provide the
highest level of service in
their respective areas.
The spa provides a complete
range of body services,
massages, manicure,
pedicure, skincare
treatment, the works.
When we talk massage we
are talking about different
types of massage like deep
massage, Swedish massage
in addition to rehabilitative
sport therapy.
Services are of course,
based on an assessment of
the clients needs and
administered to meet that
individual.
Certainly, the ability to do
that, to tailor services to
individual requirements
comes from years of training
and extensive experience.
Having graduated with an
unique combination of
business and science
degree, Ms. Bernard operated
for 8 years in the field
before coming back to
Grenada, 11 years in total.
She admitted that she has
always had an interest in
the health field, (her mom
is a registered nurse), but
she was also interested in
business administration
hence (and here she
smiles), the unusual combination.
The enterprising young
lady did not want to go
into hospital administration
though it would seem
to be what her academic
training had prepared her
for. Having been introduced
to massage in college
she was also trained
as a massage therapist.
Ms. Bernard revealed that
her desire move her operation
to Grenada was kindled
prior to 2003 when
she returned to Grenada,
but its realization was not
without its challenges and
setbacks one of them being
Hurricane Ivan.
It seems natural for a person
of Ms. Bernard enterprising
nature to expect
and work forward to the
highest level of operation
and performance from her
business.
Certainly, the fact that
there is ample scope for
innovation appeals her.
She said Grenadians are
exposed to what goes on
around the world and
expect the same standard,
quality and variety service.
Mind & Body stands out
that way. In fact customers
are not even compelled
to come to the location
for service. Any of the
services offered can be
brought to the client
whether hotel, office or
home.
In addition, the spa operation
focuses exclusively on
body, no hair dressing, cutting
or chemical services.
They focus on body.
Ms. Bernard said that
realities of modern existence
have caused people’s
stress level to increase and
they are becoming more
aware of the benefits of
taking care of themselves
in a comprehensive and
holistic way.
The boutique is also very
unique and brings a concept
of shopping that is
not the norm in Grenada.
The operation is designed
to meet the individual
needs of every customer
and potential customer.
She provides custom
ordered furniture and
home accessories of exotic
designs. Though most of
these products come from
Indonesia they have a distinctive
Caribbean flavor.
They are items that cannot
be found easily and
customers can have them
altered or adjusted to suit
individual taste or décor.
In addition, come expecting
the best quality shampoos,
conditioners, body
wash, local artwork, specially
designed handbags,
dresses and a whole variety
of other items to excite
and please.
Not being one to sit and be
satisfied with the way
things are, Ms. Bernard
intends to improve her
operation to new and
exciting levels, both spa
and the variety store.
As time goes on Ms.
Bernard intends to incorporate
more services previously
offered (prior to
her return to Grenada)
into the operation, such as
spa business consulting,
individual training courses
and workshops.
For the boutique/variety
store the search is constantly
on for new unique
items of the standard that
people will come to expect
from this establishment.
As we in Grenada become
more sophisticated along
with the rest of the world,
our taste expands and
more quality and variety
on goods and services are
expected.
Mind & Body Therapy is
doing more than its fair
share to fill the existing
gap and satisfy this need.
