Arthur Guinness was an Irish brewer and the founder of the Guinness® brewery family business. He was an entrepreneur, visionary and philanthropist who laid the foundation for the Guinness® brewery. At 27, in 1752, Arthur's godfather Arthur Price, the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Cashel, bequeathed him £100 in his will. Guinness invested the money and in 1755 founded a brewery at Leixlip, close to Dublin. In 1759, Arthur made a bold move to the city and set up his own business making history when he invested his entire inheritance in a 9,000 year lease on the 4 acre brewery at St James’s Gate in Ireland. Thanks to Arthur, persons have been enjoying Guinness® beer for 252 years, and more to come.
On September 22 the toasting to Arthur Guinness and his legacy will kick off at 17:59 GMT. In the Caribbean many islands will be celebrating Arthur’s Day in local bars featuring live performances by local talent, prizes and drink specials.
