CALLISTE GOVERNMENT SCHOOL STUDENTS CHALLENGED TO APPLY THEMSELVES TO THEIR STUDIES

St. George’s Grenada, Tuesday 21st February, 2012, MOEPRU - Learning conditions at the Calliste Government School have been significantly improved with the completion of extensive rehabilitation and expansion works.  Approximately 1.8 million dollars Eastern Caribbean Currency (ECC) was expended on the project, a joint venture of the Governments of Grenada and Turkey.

“There is now no doubt, a better learning environment altogether, for the delivery of quality education” says Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, Senator Franka Alexis Bernardine.

JOB WELL DONE!

Track and Field in Grenada took a giant leap (for many reasons) last Saturday with the staging of the KFC National Relay Meet at the National Stadium in St George’s.

Even without our celebrated athletes, hundreds of track and field fans converged at the stadium for what is now considered one of the largest sporting spectacles on the island outside of the Annual Inter-Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships (Inter-Col).

MEDIA LAUNCH OF THE 2012 CARRIACOU MAROON AND STRING BAND FESTIVAL

The Grenada Board of Tourism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture, and the Grenada Cultural Foundation, is pleased to announce that the launch event for this year’s Carriacou Maroon & String Band Festival will be held on Friday, February 24, at 1.30 p.m. in Hillsborough.

Senator the Hon. Arley Gill – Minister for Culture, and Senator the Hon. George Prime – Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, have both been invited to address the audience. In addition, participants will include members of the Festival Authority, other representatives from the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture. Leaders of the various String Band and Maroon groups in Carriacou and media representatives, including the Government Information Service, are also scheduled to attend. It is also expected that major sponsors from Carriacou will indeed be in attendance.

STATEMENT, DENIALS IN SNELL HALL PLAYING FIELD PROJECT

St. George’s, February 20, 2012 – Members of a Snell Hall family have publicly refuted a statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister that an agreement had been reached on the acquisition of lands on which government proposes to construct a resource centre and playing field.

“A mutual agreement for the exchange of lands between the government and the owner of the Snell Hall lands has been brokered, awaiting a valuation from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Community Development,’’ the statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

A day later, however, landowner Noreen de Gale was on local television disputing the claims that an agreement had been reached with government on the land issue.
