DIGICEL & GOVERNMENT OF GRENADA WORK TOGETHER TO ENHANCE YOUTH CENTRE

Wednesday, 8th February, 2012 – St. George’s: Young people who use the he National Youth Centre will be pleased to know that the facility now is well equipped with twenty Dell Desktop computers compliments Digicel, the bigger, better network.

It was a joint venture activity in which the Government waived the duties and VAT on the equipment thus enabling the persons using the centre to be able to have access to the IT equipment.

The centre was refurbished in 2010 by the Government of Grenada in collaboration with the Australian Government. As part of the refurbishment, a computer lab was constructed but has since been devoid of machines.

The equipment which is valued at EC$30,000 was handed over by Digicel’s Country Manager, Patricia Maher on Wednesday the day following the country’s observation of its 38th Anniversary of Independence.

“Digicel welcomes any opportunity to assist the young people of this nation,” said Patricia Maher, Country Manager, “the future of this country is in the hands of the youth and we are more than pleased to be of assistance in providing opportunities at this time.”

The Centre which is the home of the Grenada Cadet Corp and the Youth in Transition Movement would allow for these and other youth organisations to have access to reliable computing power.

It is a community centre in the true sense of the word with classes in Badminton, self-defense, Chinese and English being offered to the public. The computers will therefore greatly assist in deepening the services the Centre provides.

‘Digicel is also proud to be associated with an organization such as Youth in Transition which seeks to give young offenders a great opportunity to start over,’ said Marketing Manager, Kirk Seetahal, “as we continue to take our corporate social responsibility seriously in 2012.”
