Tuesday, 14th February, 2012 – St. George’s: A full fledge game show based on the “Guess that Price” model with all the bells and whistles is how the Spell Digicel promotion was concluded on Friday February 11th against the back drop of an evening of Bingo games held at the Youth Centre.“Name the Price” Show host Lexan Fletcher invited the contestants and audience to participate as various items were brought onto the stage. Item after item came one after the other and the seven lucky contestants were prompted to name the price for the item. The person with the price closest to the retail price and below it, got a chance to choose one of the seven briefcases each with a letter that spelt DIGICEL.
The catch was that in each briefcase, randomly chosen by the contestant, was written the amount the person would win and they would take home the item for which they named the correct price. The Items included a recliner, a weekend for two at the Flamboyant Hotel, a fruit basket, weights set, luggage set, drinks and a spin bike.
The excitement grew in the hall as item after item was brought onto the floor and contestant after contestant revealed their price and then chose their letter upon naming the right price.
The moment of revelation came when the contestants had to open their cases in the full view of the audience and it was revealed that Anthony Bovell, who was on the high seas at at the time but represented by his sister, won the lion’s share of the EC$80,000 at stake. The atmosphere in the hall was electric as the contestants demonstrated their joy at winning from the bigger, better network.
“It gives us at Digicel great pride and joy to see our customers so happy after having participated in another of our promotions,” said Patricia Maher, Country Manager, “and we look forward to even more celebrations with Digicel as 2012 unfolds.”Following a short intermission for the excitement to wane, there were the bingo games at which a total of $5000 in cash was won by members of the audience.
What was really significant and touching about the evening was the use the contestants said they’d put their winnings to. Selwyn Foster, clearly an avid Digicel customer, was the first to name the right price for the Recliner and chose the letter ‘D’. He won $5,000 and said he would be donating it to charity.
Gloria Phillip-Smith, who hailed from the island of Carriacou, and won $15,000, said she’d be using her money to landscape the Home for the Aged she has constructed on that island.
This is the eighth consecutive year since Digicel’s inauguration of its services here in Grenada that there has been a major Christmas promotion.
The full list of winners is as follows: Anthony Bovell - $30,000, Gloria Phillip-Smith -$15,000, Leslie Alexander - $9,000, Zubaidah Duncan - $8,000, Errol Roberts - $7,000, Dwight Richards - $6,000 and Selwyn Foster - $5,000.
