Senator the Hon. Arley Gill – Minister for Culture, and Senator the Hon. George Prime – Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, have both been invited to address the audience. In addition, participants will include members of the Festival Authority, other representatives from the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture. Leaders of the various String Band and Maroon groups in Carriacou and media representatives, including the Government Information Service, are also scheduled to attend. It is also expected that major sponsors from Carriacou will indeed be in attendance.
For 2012, this major brand event will take place from Friday April 27 to Sunday April 29. It will again feature the traditional smoked foods, Big Drum Nation Dances, Quadrille Dances, String band Performances and other cultural art forms. An exciting mix of musical String Band groups from Bequia, St. Martin and St. Lucia, together with maroon Groups from Trinidad and Guadeloupe will form the nucleus of our visiting Performances. Meanwhile work is ongoing with the local Cultural Groups who have been selected.
This Festival, which is the first of its kind in the region, debuted in 2010. It is expected to ultimately become a strong and vibrant tourist attraction that uses cultural entertainment and educational products to highlight and celebrate the culture and heritage of the people of Carriacou and neighbouring islands.
