GRENLEC MAKES SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO BOCA COMMUNITY

Tuesday, 21 May 2013: Members of Boca Secondary School and the community of Boca are eagerly anticipating the completion of a hard court being constructed next to the school and playing field. Community members joined representatives of Grenada Electricity Services Ltd. (GRENLEC), the Ministry of Education and the media for a site visit to the project, which will jointly benefit the school and the wider community.

The hard court project is a collaborative venture between Boca Secondary School, GRENLEC and the Government of Grenada.  GRENLEC is underwriting the construction under its Community Partnership Initiative (GCPI), which prioritises community development, education and sport, amongst other initiatives.

MINISTER OF TOURISM CIVIL AVIATION & CULTURE RECEIVES WARM WELCOME FROM THE UK SANDALS TEAM

Tourism Minister the Hon: Alexandra Otway-Noel received a warm welcome from the London-based Sandals team during her recent visit to that city. Reports indicate that she considered it an honour and an experience of great pride to meet with Mr. Karl Thomson, who is the Managing Director of Unique Vacations. Also present at that meeting were members of his marketing, sales and public relations teams.

During the meeting, Mr. Thomson indicated that “We have been overwhelmed with the British interest in the newly featured island of Grenada, which is being positioned as the ‘Ultimate New Sandals Destination’. It has always been a popular choice for the UK market but the number of people that have booked since we went on sale has been phenomenal. MINISTRY OF HEALTH ESTABLISHES DONATIONS DESK

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 2013 – A donations desk has been established at the Ministry of Health. The intent and purpose of the desk is to co-ordinate and manage all donations being made to the Ministry of Health as well as to ensure that donations are of the best quality.

The desk is located at the Ministry’s Botanical Gardens head office; and is being managed by former Health Minister - Mrs. Ann David-Antoine.

Mrs. Antoine, who is the Policy Advisor to the Minister for Health, said in an interview on Tuesday, that the primary objective of the desk is to make certain that donors adhere to the Ministry’s Donations Policy and that contributions are managed and put to good use.

GRENADA NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR THE DISABLED LAUNCHES NATIONAL DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH 2013

Tuesday 30th April 2013. The month of May has officially been declared Disability Awareness Month for persons living with disabilities in Grenada. In recognition of the significance of this day, members of the Grenada National Council for the Disabled (GNCD) along with Hon. Delma Thomas, Minister of Social Development, member institutions and supporters, came together at the Grenada Red Cross Headquarters, Lucas Street. St George’s to celebrate the national launch in Grenada.

May’s Disability Awareness month was officially declared opened by Hon. Delma Thomas, where she encouraged Grenadians to give each other fair and equal opportunities and expressed her Ministry’s willingness and eagerness to work along side GNCD in the future.

GOVERNMENT AND SOCIAL PARTNERS STRENGTHEN COMMITMENT TO EXPEDITE GRENADA’S ECONOMIC REVIVAL

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA Wednesday, May 08, 2013: On Friday April 26th, 2013, the Government of Grenada, led by Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, held its second monthly meeting with the social partners.

Joining the meeting for the first time were representatives the Grenada Conference of Churches who were invited to be a part of the partnership, going forward.

Discussions at the meeting included:

-          The 2013 Budget and implementation of the policies and programmes that were announced;

-          The rescheduling of retroactive payments to Public Servants;

-          Public education on the economic situation on an ongoing basis; and

-          National Health Insurance.
