Antilia and The Carlton Savannah offer Fashion, Food and Funk to a discerning clientele
Simon Khan, CEO of Antilia - the special events company producing the fashion extravaganza dubbed be. alongside local design artist and producer Charisse Parsons and The Carlton Savannah - said all systems are go to display the creative cultural expressions of top local designers.
Confirmed for the weekend's showcase at the prestigious Port-of-Spain hotel are local fashion legend Meiling, who will make an exclusive appearance for the May-June fashion season and debut her monochromatic "Noir" collection; former Miss Trinidad and Tobago Anya Ayoung-Chee who will debut her new "Pilar 2010" and "Anya de Rogue" collections; emerging designer Anthony Reid who will unveil "Anthony Reid for Meiling"; as well as singer Nigel Rojas who along with Ross Advertising's CEO Ernie Ross and Creative Director Chester Parris co-wrote "We Will Rise," the stirring sound track of the People's Partnership which emerged victorious in this week's historic general elections in the twin-island republic.
The three-day event will be hosted by Jamaican-American and world number one supermodel Tyson Beckford who hosts the reality TV show "Make Me a Super Model." Beckford will be joined by top Tobagonian and international model Sandhurst Tacama-Miggins who he affectionately calls his "little brother." They will both add extra sparkle to the experience which has attracted numerous celebrities and media representatives whose attendance helps position Trinidad and Tobago as the fashion capital of the Caribbean.
The New York-based Khan, himself a Trinidadian, is especially happy to welcome Tyson Beckford back to Trinidad just three months after his company collaborated with The Carlton Savannah to host the international supermodel, among several other celebrities, for Carnival 2010 festivities. "It's always a beautiful thing when prominent people of Caribbean descent see merit in giving back to their region. Tyson's parents are both Jamaican, but it seems like he's taken a special liking to Trinidad and in particular The Carlton Savannah hotel," noted Khan.
Khan added that "celebrities and jet-setters are always on the look out for the next hot place to be," as he explained his aim to build an internationally sought-after destination weekend experience for Trinidad and Tobago. "Caribbean heritage is so rich and its products so marketable - once we package our indigenous culture in a way that is palatable to a discerning international clientele, the results will be telling."
On Friday at The Carlton Savannah, the media gets to interact one-on-one with notable fashion designers and local and international celebrities involved in the be. experience.
